Is Pickleball different on a Squash Court?

Playing pickleball on a squash court offers a unique twist on the traditional game because the length of the court is shorter.

Here’s how the experience differs:

  • Faster Pace – The enclosed space creates lightning-fast volleys and quick rallies, especially in doubles play.

  • Less Baseline Play – The shorter court limits deep baseline shots, shifting more of the action closer to the non-volley (kitchen) zone.

  • Strategic Shot Placement – With a narrower court, accuracy becomes even more important. Players must be deliberate with their shots to avoid hitting out of bounds.

  • Wall Bank Shots – The close side walls make it possible to play shots off the wall or into the wall to return it over the net. While not typical in standard pickleball, wall shots extend rallies and reduce ball chasing—great for beginners!

  • No ATPs or Ernies – “Around the Post” and “Ernie” shots aren’t possible due to the enclosed walls. However, there’s still plenty of room for creative, strategic play.

With a few small adjustments, pickleball on a squash court remains fast, fun, and competitive!

Try it and see.
